Berkshire teenage supergroup holds its own!
By Patty Seifert
December 2008
It's been one year since our first article (below) with Warysnium. They have been keeping very busy and continue to gain attention, not only in the Berkshires but in surrounding areas.
They released their long-anticipated CD on October 31, 2008. Anders (drummer) states, "Our music writing has been getting more and more in depth with its instrumental technicality and rhythmic progressiveness. We've been steering away from the clichés associated with power metal and incorporating unexpected twists and turns into our songs, making them more interesting and original.
Although it's a bit early to start thinking about a second album, they already have three songs written for it and are working on more. "Dedicated listeners of ours will find these songs much heavier for the most part than the material on our debut. Moreover, we've been experimenting with the fusion of jazz and other un-traditional ingredients that people don't usually connect to metal."
Warsynium continuously play throughout the Berkshires. They have played several times at Northern Lights in Clifton Park, NY, and played the Webster Theatre in Hartford, CT over the summer. They also took the "Young Band" category in the Best of 2007 contest at My 411 Source, appeared on their compilation CD, and played at their 1st Annual Berkshire Music Showcase.
Personal successes include Anders, Nate, Zack and Nic graduating from high school. Joe is a senior at Wahconah High School. Anders is attending UMASS Amherst working towards bachelor's degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Nik and Nate are attending Berkshire Community College with Zack enrolling there in the Spring.
The band plans to spread their wings east across Massachusetts now that Anders is at UMass. We will use this as a stepping stone to enter the scene in Northampton and Springfield areas. We also hope to start getting some air time at local and college radio stations. At the time of the writing of this article, they were scheduled to play at a Blastermonkey Entertainment show at The Atlantic in Springfield December 12.

Warsynium: Berkshire Power Metal
By Patty Seifert & Nate Calebaugh
September 2007
Warsynium is a local, teenage supergroup of sorts blending the speed and aggression of Thrash-Metal and Power-Metal with Progressive Technicallity. Consisting of Nate Calebaugh (lead, rhythm guitars and vocals), Zack Orcutt (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Joe Haryanto (lead, rhythm guitars), Nik Viola (bass, vocals) and Anders Olson (drums), they incorporate influences from all across traditional western classical and eastern exotic music alike. To learn more about these young men who are amazing local show goers and even some area music veterans, I spoke with Nate.
411: How did you meet?
Nate: We've all known each other for a very long time. We never all actually got together until high school though. At that time I was in a band called Calypso with Zack, Joe was in a band called Tyranarchy, and Anders was in a band called Triton. Nik was a drifter whom we picked up sometime later.
411: Where did you come up with the name Warsynium?
Nate: That's a bit of a secret, but i can tell you this: it's the name of a town in a work of fiction we all enjoy (slightly modified of course).
411: Describe your music.
Nate: We play original music all over the metal and rock spectrum and draw influence from very unlikely sources. Our sound revolves a lot on harmonies lines and counterpoint lines created with the three guitarists with fast bass and faster drums. We like to surprise people and we like to be as original as possible.
411: What are your influences?
Nate: We listen to a lot of thrash bands (Metallica, Megadeth, and Testament) power metal bands (Edguy, Helloween, Dragonforce, Hammerfall) and then spice things up with influences from classical composers (Vivaldi, Paganini, Bach, Mozart), exotic scales and sounds, and all sorts of strange out there stuff you wouldn't expect from a metal band.
411:What is your goal as a band?
Nate: Just making a decent living from gigs and merch and things like that is good enough. As long as we get to share our music with whoever likes to hear it. Of course we'd also love to play huge arenas and make millions, but of course we're not THAT optimistic.
411:Where do you see yourselves in 2 years?
Nate: We will all have graduated high school. So we plan to have "Warsynium I" out by then. We've been talking about moving to a bigger city once we graduate, and trying to get bigger shows. If all goes well we'll have a second CD out as well, or at least in the making, and we'll be doing constant gigs.
411: I see you've been recording - When can we expect to hear from Warsynium?
Nate: We've had a demo out for a while now, but it has limited prints and none of us are really pleased with the recording quality of it. Warsynium is recording their debut EP.
